About Rotorua Girls' High School

A special welcome to Rotorua Girls’ High School

“It’s not how smart you are that matters, what really counts is how you are smart.” - Howard Gardner

Rotorua Girls’ High School provides opportunities. Opportunity means different things to different students. For some it is academic success and for others, it is cultural, the arts or sporting successes. These opportunities provide a deeper rounder education for our young women. Students who like and take advantage of the many opportunities our school provides, are more likely to stay here at Rotorua Girls’ High School and achieve higher qualifications. As John Hattie, New Zealand’s leading educator has said many times, ‘the best predictor of health, wealth and happiness in later life is not achievement; it’s the number of years in school’.

What is key to how many years your daughter stays at school is how we- school and home – work together to support your daughter through her adolescence and her secondary years. Research shows that high expectations from both teachers and parents are very powerful in ensuring academic success. Setting goals that force our students to think big and to stretch their horizons requires support from home and school. I challenge our students to dream big, to challenge and to make a difference.

We look forward to working with you.
