New Variable Speed Limit Outside Rotorua Girls’ High School
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) will soon introduce a new 30km/h variable speed limit outside Rotorua Girls’ High School to help keep our students and community safe during busy school travel times.
The variable speed limit will operate during school drop-off and pick-up times, as well as during some school-related events when there is increased pedestrian activity. When the signs are active, the 30km/h limit is legally enforceable. At all other times, the normal posted speed limit will apply.
This change is part of a nationwide initiative to improve safety around schools and support safer walking, cycling, and travel for students. Research shows that lower speeds significantly reduce the risk of serious injury in the event of a crash.
Please take note of the new signage and help us keep our students safe by slowing down when travelling through the school area.
